In this short video, you will learn how to request items from the Sacred Heart University library in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our physical book and DVD collections are still available to our users, but for everyone’s health and safety, users must request items online. Once requested, items will be retrieved by library staff and users will be notified by email when their items are available for pick up.
To request an item, you will first need to locate it in our catalog. On the library homepage, click on the “Books” or “Videos” tab in the main search section, depending on the type of item you need. Enter your search string or the title of the item you want and click “Search”.
In the results list, locate the physical item you want. Click on the “Retrieve Catalog Item” under the book’s title and description.
To request the item, click on the “Place hold” link on the right side of the page.
Log into your account using your SHU username and password.
On the next screen, you will be asked to confirm that you want the hold. Click the “Confirm Hold” button to place the hold.
Your items have now been requested! When the item is available to pick up, you will receive an email and it will be held for you at the Service Desk for one week. Your items will already be checked out to you so all you have to do is pick them up!
