Technology in the Library

Computers, Printers, Scanners, Copiers, Microfilm Readers, and other software available for use in the library.


12 PCs and 4 Macs are available for library research and office applications.  Computers are available for use by students, faculty, and staff of the university. Log in to the computers using your SHU username and password. Visitors also have limited use of the computers - see Computer Use Policy for Guests for additional information.

Printing Services in the Library 

SHU card or cash printing is available on all library computers:

SHU Card - send print jobs to the SHU-Canon Printer/Copier (located at the end of the Circulation Desk).

Cash Printer or M806 - Print jobs can be picked up at the library circulation desk.

SHU-Canon (SHU ID Card) Printing Fees

Black & White copies are $.6 per page when using your SHU ID card and the SHU-CanonPrinter.

Color copies are $.33 per page using the SHU-Canon

Double-Sided copies will be charged as 2 copies

Black & White copies are $.10 per page (color printing is not available with cash printer)

The public lab located in HC 113 is open 24 hours a day

Computing Services and Software in the Library

iMacs, PCs, specialized software & more

Ryan Matura Library offers both PCs and iMacs for Users to use in the main floor computer study area. Sign in to use computers with University credentials. Users can print out from any of the workstations using SHU-Canon (SHU card printer) and/or the Cash Printer (M806).

Computers & Software

16 desktop computers including 8 iMacs and 8 PCs with Microsoft Suites, for current SHU students, staff, and faculty. Sign in with SHU Username and password.

Photocopying in the Library

A copier/printer is available on the main  floor of the library, located at the end of the circulation desk near the library cafe. The copier only accepts SHU ID cards for payment.

Copying Charges:

Black & White = $.06

Color = $.33

A student can add money to his or her SHU ID to be able to make copies by depositing money into the general fund on the card. Faculty and staff members must use their SHU IDs if they would like to make photocopies. Faculty and Staff members must have money on their SHU ID cards to make copies.The money on the faculty and staff SHU ID cards comes from the department that the faculty or staff member works for, and it is not necessary for faculty and staff members to add money to their SHU ID cards. The library staff does not have the ability to override the photocopiers, and faculty codes no longer work in the photocopiers.

Campus-wide Copier Locations    


There are two touch screen color scanners on main floor of the Ryan Matura Library. You can scan books, documents, or photos then send by email, USB, cloud services, and more. See Scannx Book ScanCenter Tutorials for direction about using these scanners Features include:

  • touch screen
  • book page up to 11” x 17” on flat glass
  • scan mode in color, grayscale and black & white
  • convert scanned images into PDF,  Searchable PDF, Word, JPEG, TIFF , PNG
  • send scanned files to: Smart phone, USB drive, Google Drive, or email

Microfilm Readers

Microfilm Services

Ryan Matura Library offers 2 microfilm scanners for self-service scanning. Please ask a librarian for assistance if you are unfamiliar with using the scanners. Click here for directions for using the microfilm scanners

  • Kodak 3000DSV is located in the lower level. Users can print out from the microfilm scanner directly.
  • ScanPro 2000 is located in the technical services department on the lower floor of the library. Microfilm can be saved to your USB flash drive.
