Social Work Research Guide

An introduction to finding Social Work Resources

Hello! Welcome to the Social Work Research Guide. This is your go-to reference source when trying to navigate SHU Library's resources to find the Social Work related research you need for your courses and work.

Use the navigation menu on the left to find the help you need. You can also contact me directly--my contact information is on this page.

Developing a research question

This page has tips for narrowing down a broad topic to a more narrow research question.  You will find explanations about the library's QuickSearch and why a Google search might not be best place to find the research you need.

Recommended Resources

This page is a collection of resources that will be useful as you do research in social work. You'll find specific subject databases in Recommended Resources, and links to our streaming video service for you to find social work-related videos.

Research Tools at SHU

The library provides access to a number of resources and tools that will help in your research. This page explains what Journal Finder, Citation Linker, and InterLibrary Loan are and how they can help you. The page also has links directly to these resources.

APA style and Zotero

In Social Work research, you need to use APA (American Psychological Association) citation style. This page provides guidance on how to cite using APA, and links you to relevant resources that will help you format your citations correctly. Zotero is a citation management tool that we highly recommend using to keep track of all of your citations and research. This page includes a short video about Zotero, and a link to SHU Library's guide with more information about it.
