Introduction

Welcome! This quick guide will cover:

  • How to get quick citations from the databases in your style of choice

  • The citation style guides available through the library

  • An overview of other citation resources available to you through the library

Citation tools, including the citation generator tools mentioned on this page, sometimes make mistakes. Always check that your citations are correct before submitting your work.

Quick Citations From the Databases

You can easily create citations for resource that you find in the library databases and the QuickSearch. Here's how:

Method 1: From a resource's record page: 

  1. Open the resource you want to cite

  2. Look for the "Cite" button (it usually looks like a quotation mark symbol)

  3. Click Cite

Method 2: From search results

  1. Find the resource in your search results

  2. Click the "Tools" button (looks like three dots ⋮)

  3. Click Cite

After clicking Cite:

  1. A box will appear

  2. Select your citation style (example: APA 7th edition, MLA 9th edition., etc.) 

  3. Click "Copy to clipboard"

  4. Paste the citation where you need it

 

Electronic Citation Manuals at the Library

The library provides electronic access to the following citations manuals: 

  • Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.) - Available as the APA Style Manual database 

  • AMA Manual of Style (11th ed.) - Available as an ebook

How to access:

  • APA Style Manual: Find it on the A-Z list of all databases on the library website or use the direct link below

  • AMA Manual of Style: Search for it on the library catalog on the front page of the library website, or use the direct link below

The library also has physical copies of the following citation guides available at the reference desk on the first floor of the library:

  • Citation Quick Reference Guides

    • Downloadable PDF guides for  the most commonly used citation styles at the university, including APA, IEE, MLA, etc.

  • Zotero Citation Manager

    • Free resource management tool that will help save, organize, and cite your sources automatically

    • Several video tutorials that show how to install and use Zotero
