Writing Assistance

The Jandrisevits Learning Center (JLC), located in the Student Success Center at the corner of St. Nicholas Road and Park Avenue, provides academic support for all SHU students. Professional tutors and trained Peer tutors and CLAs offer students academic support in multiple subject and skill areas, such as writing, in a friendly learning environment. To schedule time with a writing tutor, call 371-2820 or stop by the JLC to make an appointment.

The JLC also hosts the Online Writing Lab (OWL), which allows students to have their papers reviewed online as an alternative to a 1-on1 tutorial. A professional tutor will return the student’s paper with advice on argumentation, content development, organization, grammar, and punctuation. Assignments are returned in 24 to 48 hours.

Submission is easy! Simply fill out the OWL Submission Form each time you submit a paper.

Submissions need to include your instructor’s assignment guidelines, instructions, rubric, or other information that will help the tutor give you valuable feedback on the form. Also, provide the course name and number, the instructor’s name, and your name.

Attach your paper to the submission form; please, use your last name and the submission date as the name of the file (e.g., smith_02_06_13).

For step-by-step instructions on submitting a written assignment through the JLC's OWL, see the video below:
