Remembering COVID

As the Coronavirus severely impacted the lives of people around the world, the pandemic disrupted and rapidly dispersed the Sacred Heart University community across the globe. The Remembering COVID-19 Project, which is a partnership between the History Department and the Sacred Heart University Library, seeks to collect, preserve, and share our community's experiences of and responses to the global pandemic. We invite SHU students, faculty, staff, and alumni to collect records of their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic and submit them to this collection, which will be made available for future research of this historic time.

Types of Materials

Please feel free to submit your experiences in any format, including photographs, diaries, audio recordings, videos, correspondences, social media posts, essays, blog posts, or class projects.

If you choose to submit written personal reflections, here are some prompts to help you get started:

For Students:

  • How did you feel when you learned that the University was moving classes online?
  • What was your most immediate concern?
  • What has been the most challenging thing about online learning?
  • What is the situation like where you are living? Are you quarantined with family members? Are you still living on campus? What are the unique challenges of your situation?
  • Have you or has anyone close to you been sick?
  • What do you miss most about being at the SHU campus?
  • Are you a senior? Talk about what it's like missing the senior spring activities.
  • What worries you most looking forward?
  • Is there anything you are grateful for right now? Any positive experiences you have had or witnessed that make you feel hopeful?

For Alumni:

  • How has the COVID pandemic impacted your daily life and work schedule?
  • If you are a recent graduate from SHU, how has the COVID pandemic altered your post-college plans?
  • For those with school aged children, how has the COVID pandemic affected your life?
  • How have you found support or strength to deal with the pandemic from your SHU community contacts?

For Faculty, Staff, and Administrators:

  • What has been the most challenging or surprising thing the University's transition to online learning?
  • What did you think would be your greatest challenge, and what has proven to be? Is anything easier that you anticipated?
  • The emotional and psychological toll this is taking on students is tremendous. Talk about the challenges of witnessing and engaging with this, while at the same time handling your own changed circumstances and stressors.
  • What do you miss most about being in the classroom/on campus with students?
  • How are you staying connected with your colleagues?
  • Is there anything you are grateful for right now? Any positive experiences you have had or witnessed that make you feel hopeful?
