Getting Started

Here are a few useful things to keep in mind when you start to research a new topic:

  • Database searching is mainly a trial-and-error process. Searching requires the use of different keyword combinations to determine the best combination for finding on-topic research. You often will need to try several keyword combinations before you start to find articles that are related to your topic.

  • It's not uncommon to pick a topic and then discover that there are very few articles on the subject. It's okay to change topics if there isn't enough research that you can use.

  • If you have any questions, you can always reach out to your Sacred Heart librarians for assistance! We will always be ready to help you at any stage of the research process.
