The mission of the Bureau is “To collect, analyze, publish, and disseminate information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. These data are critical to Federal, State, and local policymakers in combating crime and ensuring that justice is both efficient and evenhanded.”

FBI Uniform Crime Reports

The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program was conceived in 1929 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to meet a need for reliable, uniform crime statistics for the nation. In 1930, the FBI was tasked with collecting, publishing, and archiving those statistics.

European Sourcebook of Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics

The European Sourcebook project has created compendia of crime and criminal justice data for more than 35 European countries in 1999 (covering the years 1990 to 1996), 2003 (covering the years 1995 to 2000), and 2006 (covering the years 2000 to 2003),  and 2009 (covering the period from 2003 to 2007). The Fifth Edition (2007-2011) was published in Sept. 2014. All are available as downloadable PDFs.
