When observing a culture, it’s important to keep in mind the difference between cultural generalizations and cultural stereotypes.

A generalization describes a trait that many people in a culture might share. A stereotype, on the other hand, assumes that all members of a group think or act alike because of a certain behavior that is common in that group.

Globalization refers to the “increasing multi-directional economic, social, cultural, and political connections that are forming across the world and our awareness of them” (The SAGE Dictionary of Cultural Studies).

In other words, globalization is the idea that people, goods, and ideas are spreading around the world and we are becoming more interconnected and aware of this process. Watch the following video to see an example of this global interconnectedness.
