The Ryan Matura Library building will be open to the SHU Community only beginning August 31, 2020. While the building is open to current SHU students, faculty, and staff, many of our policies and services have been updated in order to serve you in the safest manner. Please note that you will not be allowed in the building without a reservation. Read more about our updated services below.
The main Ryan Matura Library building will be open to current SHU students, faculty, and staff for the Fall semester. However, we have implemented the following policies to ensure everyone's safety.
The CHE Resource Center will be closed for the Fall semester. You are able to Request Books from this collection for contactless pickup, two week loans.
The Library Café will be closed for the Fall semester. You are able to Reserve Seating in the café area as study space.
Librarians will only be available for virtual or remote Reference and Research help. You can contact us through the following channels:
Librarians are still available for in-class instruction, but it will be provided remotely via Zoom, Teams, or WebEx. If you are a faculty member that would like to schedule an instruction session, please fill out our Instruction Request Form.
You can schedule an Appointment for remote research consultations or reference help with our librarians. These appointments will take place via Zoom, Teams, or WebEx.
Our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service for digital articles and books will remain the same. You can also request scans of journal articles from our physical collection and we will email them to you.
The vast majority of the Library's collections are digital and will continue to be available through the Library website and our QuickSearch discovery tool. In addition, Faculty can use our Library Resource Builder to set up many of digital resources as course reserves in Blackboard
The Library stacks and bookshelves will be closed off during the Fall semester. In order to check out books and DVDs from the library, you will need to request the items through the catalog. Simply find an item that you would like to check out, click the "Place Hold" link, follow the instructions, and wait for an email indicating that your item is ready to be picked up at the designated table at the front of the Library. Please see the following video for more detailed instructions on requesting items for pickup.
The Library will not have physical Course Reserves for the Fall semester. Faculty can still use our Library Resource Builder to set up many of our digital resources as course reserves in Blackboard.
Current newspapers or periodicals will not be available for on-site reading in the library. If you need an article from our physical journals, submit an ILL request, and we will scan it for you.
