Style Guides

In academic writing, it is VERY important to properly cite your sources. This not only provides the original author with the acknowledgement deserved, but also allows your readers to verify your claims. There are a number of different styles to choose from when formatting citations. Sometimes the decision about which style guide to select is made easy: certain styles are discipline-specific, others are preferred by schools, departments, or instructors. The most important aspect, though, is to remain consistant. If you have any questions about which bibliographic style to choose from, contact your course instructor, academic advisor, or a librarian.
