Technology in the Library


Computers


Main Library

The Ryan Matura Library offers 12 PCs and 4 iMacs all with the Microsoft Office Suite software for use on the main floor. Students, faculty, and staff sign in to use computers with their SHU username and password. Users can print out from any of the workstations using SHU-Canon (SHU card printer) and/or the Cash Printer (M806).

The computers in the library are for use only by SHU students, faculty, staff, and those affiliated with the university. 

Guests may access the SHU Guest Wi-Fi with their personal laptops. Please see our Guest Policy for additional information.

CHE Library

The CHE Library space has 4 PC computers with the Microsoft Office Suite software for use. Students, faculty, and staff sign in to use computers with their SHU username and password. Users can print out from any of the workstations using SHU-Canon (SHU card printer).

Wifi


Sacred Heart University students, faculty, and staff can connect their laptops to the SHU wireless network to access the internet and conduct research within all library spaces. Simply choose the "Sacred Heart" wireless network and enter your SHU username and password when prompted.

Printing


Printing from Laptops

Students, faculty, and staff can print from their laptops to the SHU-Canon printers in the library spaces. The SHU-Canon printer needs to be set up on the laptop and the laptop needs to be on the "Sacred Heart" wireless network. After sending the print job to the printer, one swipes their SHU Card at the printer to release the job. See the Printing Fees for charges information.

Printing from Library Computers

Printing with your SHU Card is available on any Library computer. Those using the computers in the Main Library also have the option to print to our Cash printer. See the Printing Fees for charges information.

To use the SHU Card printer, select the SHU-Canon printer and then swipe your card at the printer.

To use the Cash printer in the Main Library, select the Cash Printer (LIB-REF-02). You can pick up and pay for your prints at the Circulation Desk. Color prints are not available on the Cash printer.

Copiers


The Canon printers in both the Main Library and the CHE Library can also be used as photocopiers. The copier only accepts SHU Cards for payment. To use the photocopier functions, swipe your SHU Card and select the Copier functions on the machine.

Scanners


The Main Library has 2 touch-screen color scanners for use on the main floor. You can scan books, documents, or photos and then send the files to email or save them to a USB. Special features include:

  • Scan book pages up to 11" x 17"
  • Scan in color, grayscale, or black and white
  • Save scans as PDF, searchable PDF, Word, JPEG, TIFF, or PNG files
  • Send scans to smart phones, email, USB drive, or Google Drive.

Study Room Monitors


Each Group Study Room is equipped with a large TV monitor that can be used to present from a laptop. To connect a laptop to the monitor wirelessly, follow the AirMedia instructions on the TV screen.

Microfilm Readers


The Main Library has 2 microfilm readers available for self-service browsing. Please ask a librarian for assistance if you are unfamiliar with using the readers. Below are the available readers and their location:

  • Kodak 3000DSV - located on the lower level; users can print directly from the microfilm reader.
  • ScanPro 2000 - located on the lower level in the Resource Management Office; users can convert pages to PDF and save them to a USB.
