Juvenile Book Award Winners

A brief introduction to Juvenile book awards that we acquire for our collection.

Brief history

First established in 1969 to award an African American author of books for children that showed an appreciation of African American culture.  In 1974 an illustrator award was established.  The Coretta Scott King Awards honor the work that Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King did to promote peace.  The American Library Association presents the awards annually.

This is a complete list of winners, starting with the author awards in 1970 and adding the illustrator awards in 1974.  Check our catalog to determine if SHU Library owns any of these books.
