AN 299: Humans and the Ice Age is intended to provide an overview as to the various human adaptations and cultural expressions occurring globally during the last Ice Age. Topics will include the various hypotheses on the reasons for these periods of glaciation; the description of the extinct megafauna existing during this time period; the spread of modern humans in Europe, Asia and eventually the Americas; the presence of Neanderthals groups coexisting in Europe and Asia; the development of language; and the appearance of sophisticated art forms. The ultimate objective of the course is to better understand the effects brought by climate change during the Ice Age on the rise of modern human culture.
