Borrowing privileges at other libraries
Ryan-Matura Library has made arrangements with several libraries and consortia within the State of Connecticut to provide borrowing privileges to faculty members and currently enrolled students. Most colleges and universities will allow access and use of their materials in their respective libraries. However, only those that we have agreements with will provide borrowing privileges.
University of Connecticut Libraries
Sacred Heart University faculty and students may borrow materials from the University of Connecticut libraries, including Homer Babbidge in Storrs and the regional campuses in Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury with the exception of the Health and Law libraries.
Faculty and students must register with the library by presenting their Sacred Heart University ID card at the Circulation Desk to be added as a patron to their system. A full name, local address, phone number and social security number will also be required for complete registration. A University of Connecticut library card will be issued. Borrowing privileges provide a limit of 25 items to be checked out at a time with an automatic block if there are 10 overdue items. The policies of those libraries will apply to all patrons.
Yale University
Any Sacred Heart University faculty member who wishes to use the Yale libraries must comply with the following guidelines.
Visitors to Yale libraries require a signed letter from Gavin Ferriby, Associate University Librarian.
You may complete the form and submit to the Administrative Office at the Ryan- Matura Library or you may email Renata Cioffi at cioffim@sacredheart.edu with your request. If you have any questions, please contact Renata Cioffi, Administrative Services Manager at #371-7700.
For 3 months of borrowing privileges, there is a fee of $95.00, payable by the faculty member. Checks should be made out to Sacred Heart University and given to Renata Cioffi in the Library Administration office.
- For 3 months of stack privileges only, there is no cost to the faculty.
- The library will pay for 3 months of borrowing privileges for faculty on an approved sabbatical.
Fairfield Public Library
For Fairfield Public libraries, Connecticut residents must use their current hometown library card to borrow materials. Out-of-state residents must present a Sacred Heart University ID card and some form of identification with a home address on it in order to be issued a guest borrower’s card. Cards are issued for a single academic year.
Other Connecticut Colleges and Universities
There is a consortium of college and university libraries (CCALD) that provide borrowing privileges to faculty of member institutions. See the complete description of this agreement and a list of participants on pages 18 - 20.
Other Connecticut Public libraries
Anyone is permitted access and use of materials in all of the state’s public libraries. However, only Connecticut residents with a current public library card from their hometown may borrow materials, with the exception of Fairfield Public libraries as described above.
