Evaluating web sites for quality of scholarship can be difficult. Here are some good and useful web resources, each of which have already been viewed and evaluated by librarians.
- The American Sociological Association (ASA) — Founded in 1905 the ASA is “dedicated to advancing sociology as a scientific discipline and profession serving the public good.” The ASA Website is an important informational resource for this field containing statistical information and reports on the profession, career resources, downloadable research briefs, and links to over 40 ASA sections, such as:
- The British Sociological Association — The British Sociological Association, founded in 1951, provides an overview of the discipline on its site, as well as links to Web-based resources of interest to sociologists, a discussion forum and other resources.
- Intute: Social Sciences - Social Welfare — This searchable British database (formerly "SOSIG") provides descriptions of—and access to—Web-based resources for general sociology, culture and identity, economic sociology and theory. The resources included in the database have been evaluated by academic subject specialists in the United Kingdom.
