Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing privileges at Ryan-Matura Library are governed by these considerations: (Materials located at the Cambridge Campus in general do not circulate)

  • Circulation policies are designed to provide equal access to the Library's collection for all borrowers.
  • Fines are levied to promote the prompt return of materials to allow others access.
  • Replacement costs are applied to purchase a replacement item, at the current price.
  • Processing fees are charged to cover the cost of library personnel time and supplies in preparing the material for the shelf.

 Graduate and Undergraduate students

  • Library books may be borrowed for 28 days with one renewal for 28 days.
  • Videos may be borrowed for 3 days; with no renewals.
  • Books placed on reserve may be borrowed for 1 hour, 3 hours, or 1 day. The time period is determined by the faculty.

Faculty and staff

  • Library books may be borrowed for 70 days with one renewal.
  • Videos may be borrowed for 3 days; no renewals

Visitors

  • Library books may be borrowed for 14 days with no renewals and a limit of 3 books.
  • Videos may not be borrowed

CHARGES

  • $.25 per day for books.
  • $1.00 per day for videos.
  • $1.00 per HOUR per item for reserve materials.
  • $1.00 per item, per day for books that have been recalled.
  • $2.00 per item, per day for videos that have been recalled.
  • $1.00 per day for special collection books.
  • Items obtained through interlibrary Loan (ILL) will be fined in the same manner as material belonging to the Ryan-Matura Library.
  • Blocks will be placed on a patron's circulation privileges when fines and/or fees exceed $25.00.
  • A copy of the policies for students, faculty, staff and guests is available in the Library.
  • The patron is ultimately responsible for returning items on time. The due date is stamped. Patrons also have access to their own records on the Enterprise system and may check the status of any or all items checked out. Renewal of items may be performed through the Enterprise system prior to the due date. Overdue notices will be sent to the patron's email and home address. However, sending an overdue notice is a courtesy.

HOLDS

  • Patrons may place a “hold” on a book that is available in the Ryan-Matura Library. This can be done on the Enterprise system. Click on the “request” button on the top of the results screen and complete the information requested.
